Big, wispy, fluttery eyelashes are a staple accessory, much like a designer handbag or statement jewelry. Worn on their own for a casual, natural approach, or paired alongside a dramatic eyeshadow look for ultimate glamour, eyelashes enhance your eye shape, flatter the face, and effortlessly compliment your makeup style.
Although famous for our selection of luxury Remy hair extensions, Foxy Locks is also extremely proud to offer a stunning range of false eyelashes to suit any occasion. Coming in a variety of lengths and densities, you’re guaranteed to find the perfect pair to fit your desired look.
Why were false eyelashes invented?
Eyelash enhancement dates all the way back to Ancient Egypt, when kohl and ointments were used to darken and thicken the eyelashes to protect from the harsh desert sun. The Romans were also known to use ash and soot for a similar effect. The modern false eyelash is credited to Hollywood director D.W. Griffith, who commissioned a wig maker to create a captivating and ethereal eyelash look for a leading actress in a movie of his.
What kind of false eyelashes are there?
There is an abundance of different false eyelash types on the market, suiting a range of lifestyles and wearability. Although Foxy Locks only offers the ‘Strip Lash’ variety, it may be useful to compare products to see how L’amore Lashes can elevate your look.
- Strip lashes
Strip lashes are a beloved beauty accessory for a reason. They are comfortable and easy to apply, customisable to your desired look, and come in a massive range of styles to suit every taste. If you’re looking for delicate and wispy, or a dramatic cat-eye, you’re guaranteed to find your perfect eyelash in our collection. The lifespan of your strip lashes will depend on their material and usage, but can be worn for anywhere between 4-25 uses, as long as they are cleaned and stored properly.
- Individual lashes
Individual lashes are small clusters of eyelash fibres that cover a short segment of the eye, as opposed to strip lashes that cover the entire lash line. They tend to be slightly fiddlier than strip lashes, as you are handling 1 weft rather than multiple at a time. However, this does mean your look can be transformed to whatever you desire, as you can layer up or space out the eyelashes as you wish. They are more natural looking and can be used to fill a sparse area or add subtle length and thickness.
- Magnetic eyelashes
Magnetic eyelashes are a relatively new phenomenon, that offers an alternative to using traditional eyelash glue to attach to your lids. These are great for anyone that suffers from allergies or irritation to lash adhesive, or for people who struggle with the mess of application. They can attach by sandwiching your natural eyelashes between two magnetic strip lashes, with the magnets connecting to hold the lashes in place. Alternatively, specialized magnetic eyeliners can be applied along the lash line, which secures to magnets on the lash strip once dried.
- Eyelash extensions
Whilst the other types of false eyelashes are for temporary wear, eyelash extensions are a semi-permanent alternative applied by a trained technician. Synthetic, silk or natural fibres are attached to an individual eyelash using precise tweezers and specialized adhesive that is stronger than typical lash glue. These can last up to 6 weeks after initial application, but typically require infills every 2-4 weeks to maintain fullness.
How to apply false eyelashes
To apply a pair of Foxy Locks L’amore Lashes, which are the ‘Strip Lash’ style, follow these instructions:
1. Prepare your eyelids and natural eyelashes by removing any makeup or oils using micellar water or face wash.
2. Curl your eyelashes using an eyelash curler and apply a thin coat of mascara, this will help blend the false eyelashes to your own.
3. Measure the lashes by holding them up to your eye, if they are too long then trim from the outer edge (the thicker / longer side) with small scissors until you’re happy with the fit.
4. Apply a thin layer of lash glue along the band, ensure an even coating and avoid getting it on any of the individual lashes as they may stick together and clump.
5. Wait for 30 seconds or until the glue becomes tacky, then carefully place the false lash on your natural lash line, working from the inner corner of the eye outwards.
6. Press the band gently to ensure it has adhered securely, you can use tweezers or a lash applicator to squeeze the false lash to your natural lashes.
7. Use a spoolie or clean mascara wand to comb your natural eyelashes and the false lash together, creating a seamless blend.
How to remove and clean false eyelashes
A set of false eyelashes can be worn several times if they are cleaned and stored correctly when not in use. Follow our guide for how to remove and clean your eyelashes to get the most out of them:
1. To remove, gently grasp the outer corner of the false lash and peel them away from your eyelid towards the inner corner.
2. Once the false eyelash has been removed, you can use an oil-based cleanser to clean any remaining glue from your eyelid, but do not use this on the false lash itself. Oil-based cleansers can cause the lash fibres to clump together, ruining their appearance and shortening their lifespan.
3. Instead, use micellar water on a cotton swab or clean makeup brush along the band of the false eyelash.
4. Make sure all makeup and residual glue is removed from the false eyelash, before storing in its original case or other storage container to prevent damage.
